How the Score Works
Structural Pulse · Interpreted Signal Index
What it is
The Structural Pulse is an interpreted composite of signal pressure across five global domains. It does not measure how good or bad the world is — it measures how much systemic pressure is detectable in the information environment right now, relative to a calibrated baseline. 50 is baseline. Higher means elevated aggregate pressure. Lower means relative calm.
Five-step pipeline
1
Signal collection
Every 6 hours, hundreds of articles and posts are pulled from NewsAPI, Reddit, and other feeds — filtered for relevance across Economic, Geopolitical, Technology, Social, and Cultural domains.
2
Domain scoring
Claude reads the signal batch and assigns a pressure score (0–100) to each domain. Scores reflect signal volume, sentiment polarity, and narrative coherence — not just negative/positive counts.
3
Composite calculation
Domain scores are weighted and combined: Economic 30% · Geopolitical 25% · Technology 20% · Social 15% · Cultural 10%. The result is the raw composite.
4
EMA smoothing
The raw composite is blended with the previous score using an exponential moving average (85% prior · 15% new under normal conditions; 95% · 5% during sharp spikes). This prevents single noisy scans from whipsawing the index.
5
Regime classification
The smoothed score maps to a named regime. Claude also interprets the signal environment in prose — distinguishing what is observed from what is inferred.
Score bands
0 – 35
Stable
Low aggregate pressure. Signal environment is quiet relative to baseline.
36 – 49
Elevated
Above baseline but within normal range. Worth monitoring.
50 – 64
Transitional
Meaningful pressure accumulating. Domains diverging or converging.
65 – 79
Systemic Pressure
Broad signal stress across multiple domains simultaneously.
80 – 100
Severe Stress
Historically rare. Signals consistent with major systemic disruption.
